ABOUT Gibraltar Rugby National Team
Gibraltar Rugby National Team History.
Gibraltar Rugby selected their first National Team for a friendly match against Belgium U23’s in Brussels on 12th November 2011. This match was part of our campaign to join Rugby Europe (RE) as full members, proving that we could field a competitive squad, able to hold their own within the Rugby Europe association.
Gibraltar Rugby met all the technical requirements to join Rugby Europe.
However, various other issues, including political actions, mean that, as of January 2025, Gibraltar Rugby is still working on joining Rugby Europe.
Undeterred by the lack of official competition, Gibraltar Rugby has worked hard to continue to provide our players with International competition. Our quest for matches has taken us across Europe, as well as Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Bermuda. All of these matches have been largely self-funded, with Sponsorships and Gibraltar Government funding alleviating the costs.

We have played 21 matches over the last 13 years, with increasing difficulties in securing friendly matches since the Covid pandemic. The table below shows our results to date. There have been 12 wins, 1 draw and 8 losses, scoring 453 points and conceding 401 points.

Over these 13 years and 21 matches, a total of 109 players have proudly represented Gibraltar Rugby. All of these players were selected following World Rugby eligibility rules.
Importantly, we have also managed to secure friendlies at U23, U21 (both against Jamaica), U19 against Bermuda and U18 against Sweden.
Gibraltar Rugby National Team Future
Gibraltar Rugby continues its mission to be admitted into Rugby Europe. This will secure official competition for, not only for our Senior Men Squad, but also at Age Grades and Women.
