Gibraltar Rugby Football Union (GRFU) took to the streets for this year’s Cavalcade. With their “Rugby Rocks” float and a strong presence from players of all ages, the event shared the values that rugby represents.
The GRFU float carried banners displaying the union’s values, including inclusivity, highlighting that rugby welcomes everyone—regardless of age, gender, size, or ability. Younger players walked alongside and behind the float, waving flags and showing enthusiasm for the sport.
Behind the float, nearly 20 Gibraltar Women’s Rugby team members got crowds cheering by pulling a Mitsubishi jeep, kindly provided by Mitsubishi Motors Gibraltar, along the entire route. Their participation reflected the growing role of women in the sport locally.
Sophia Lombard said:
“Being part of the Cavalcade was such fun! As well as a great way to connect with the community, it was about showing that rugby is for everyone and that women are a big part of the game here in Gibraltar. Our message was clear: women play rugby, and oh, how we play!”
GRFU’s involvement in the Cavalcade aimed to inspire more people to get involved in rugby locally, whether as players, supporters, or volunteers. The event celebrated rugby as a sport that brings people together and supports values like teamwork and inclusivity.
As Gibraltar Rugby grows, the union remains committed to making rugby accessible and strengthening its connection with the local community.
