Europa Sports Complex Pitch Usage Conditions

The GFA now manages the exterior assets at ESC and have installed a brand new UEFA (and World Rugby) compliant pitch. In using the pitch, we have been asked to comply with the following:

  1. Only molded boots to be worn.
  2. Once designated, training areas are to be kept to.
  3. Training times/allocations will be monitored and must be adhered to.

Tom has produced a detailed reference sheet accessible via a QR code (below) to inform all parents of Training times, locations and guidance on footwear.

Rugger Tots are exempt from the footwear requirements, but we would ask if you could access the normal training area by the northern or southern edges (old turf) of the main pitch and not walk over the pitch – Thank you.

Santa’s vs Elves – Touch Rugby 28th December

Please join us to blow away the festive cobwebs with a fancy dress touch rugby match at Europa Sports Complex. It’s a fun relaxed event, starting around 12.00, and ending up in the bar for some mulled wine and mince pies.

Will Santa still be able to perform that side step with all those mince pies in his tummy? Will the elves have any energy left after their massive xmas shift? Come along and join in the fun.

3 Kings Cavalcade

The GRFU are once again entering the 3 Kings Cavalcade and would appreciate any help in dressing the float, participating in the parade and helping dismantle/disassemble after the fun.

All members are welcome – If you can spare some time please contact Edward Rudd on +447855300616 for further details.

It would be great to see Gibraltar Rugby represented in numbers down main street. There are lots of opportunities to get involved as much as you would like, or just join us for the parade – We have to inform the organizers of our estimated numbers, so please let us know ASAP if you would like to join in.

Please can Age Grade members inform their coach if they would like to join in the Cavalcade by this Friday. Thank you.

Message From Stephen Payas, Honorary President, GRFU.

Dear Members, The Board and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and merry Christmas with your loved ones.

It has been a great start to the season. The numbers at Junior and Youth Rugby have been great and we have seen wonderful development, enjoyment and competition. This includes the TNB tournaments, which continue to go from strength to strength. The teams participating in Andalucia have also had a busy term. All of this is thanks to the wonderful volunteers making it happen, the children’s effort and the invaluable support of parents.

Our Senior Women have been involved in a number of matches, both home and in Spain, and continue to go from strength to strength. We wish them all the best in their February trip to UK to play Met Police. Encouraging pressure on our women will come from the U16 girls, who also played their first competitive fixture this term.

At Senior men we have a competitive league, even with reduced teams, but with a lot of work behind the scenes to rebuild the number of clubs. Congratulations to all involved in making this work and in seeking to improve.

Finally, Representative sides at U18, U23 and Senior level have all had competitive fixtures, and the Board remains committed to bring more fixtures in the second half of the season, including Home matches.

Finally, to repeat our best wishes for the Christmas season. Rest, relax, and come back full of energy for an even more exciting second half of the season.

We look forward to seeing you on the field or in the Rugby Clubhouse.

Until next week,
Gibraltar Rugby.
