PRESS RELEASE GIBRALTAR, April 2025 – The rugby sevens scene has a new contender. Introducing Gibraltar Campion 7s, the latest team set to compete in tournaments across the UK and Europe.
Rooted in Gibraltar, the team’s mission is clear:
To put Gibraltar Rugby on the map through the fast-paced and dynamic 7s format.
With a deep talent pool of players based in both the UK and Gibraltar, Campion 7s is committed to showcasing high-level rugby, building a strong team culture, and competing across Europe in the coming seasons.
Gibraltar Campion 7s – A Vision for Growth
Gibraltar Campion 7s is more than just a team, it’s a National pathway into the 7s game. By competing in renowned tournaments across Europe, the squad aims to elevate Gibraltar’s rugby reputation while providing a platform for talented Gibraltarian players to play a shortened version of the game.
Its programme’s ambition also lies in competing in Rugby Europe Grand Prix 7s and potentially Commonwealth Games qualifiers.
Whilst this season’s launch is the Men’s team, a Women’s programme will feature in the future.
Upcoming Tournaments for Gibraltar Campion 7s
Campion 7s will kick off its inaugural season with a packed schedule of top-tier tournaments:
Summer Social (Richmond, UK) – May 31
- The first test for our UK-based squad and traveling players from Gibraltar, combining competitive rugby with a world-class post-tournament social scene.
Algarve 7s (Portugal) – June 6-9
- A multi-day tournament featuring elite competition and a fantastic rugby culture. A mix of UK and Gibraltar-based players will represent Campion 7s in what is expected to be a season highlight.
Gibraltar 7s – June 27-29
- The home tournament. Campion 7s has high expectations of competing for the Open Category title, bringing high-intensity rugby to Gibraltar’s passionate fans.
Lit 7s (Wasps FC, UK) – July 19
- A season finale featuring 70 teams and a true showcase of the 7s format. A prime opportunity to grow the Campion 7s brand and connect with the wider rugby community.
